Last weekend, at the 2013 National BMX Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony, Pro Gate supported athlete, and Rockford BMX local, Tyler Whitfield accepted the very first Hall Of Fame Scholarship from the National BMX Hall Of Fame. Tyler was introduced by USA BMX CEO and Chairman of the Hall Of Fame, BA Anderson. BA said the scholarship was awarded for “qualities in an individual that, we believe, one day, will put them in the Hall of Fame.”
Tyler was called on stage, and after a brief montage of his unparalleled riding skills, he was presented with a “big check” (both physically and financially).
The ceremonial “podium” check was for $5,000, and would be used for Tyler’s college education at Marian University in Indianapolis.
Tyler went on to give a very humble, and well-stated speech. We especially liked the part where he recounted a conversation he had with Shannon Gillette from USA BMX, at the annual Pro Gate BBQ before the Midwest Nationals. He also, very graciously thanked all his sponsors and supporters, Pro Gate included.
It was a wonderful moment for all those who could share it with him, and we are proud to have such a great role model for up & coming BMXers as part of our program.
Here’s the video of his speech:
